Automated App Licensing

Overview

AppsAnywhere provides a range of ready-to-deploy applications, which can be automatically licensed upon launch by AppsAnywhere.

Compatible applications are downloaded from the AppsAnywhere and can be automatically licensed using existing software license details.

The relevant licensing information for these apps can be configured using pre-defined templates within AppsAnywhere.

A license template can then be applied to one or many Delivery Methods.

  • Automated App Licensing is available to all customers using AppsAnywhere 2.11 or above

  • The feature must be enabled by AppsAnywhere Support before use

  • Compatible applications can only be downloaded from the AppsAnywhere Packaging Service

  • Only the applications provided by AppsAnywhere via Automated App License Templates are compatible

  • It is not possible for customers to create their own templates for applications that are not already included

  • New templates are only added periodically, once installation media and licensing details become available

  • Requests for new versions should be submitted in Application Requests | AppsAnywhere

  • Customizations to existing templates are requested as Bespoke Requests

  • All apps are packaged in English (either UK or US) language – if another language is required, this is classified as a bespoke request

  • Only the latest versions available at the time will be converted to Automated App License Templates

In addition to Automated App License Template, Core Apps are also available

Downloading an Auto License STP

Updating the List of Templates

When creating an App License there is a choice of using an AppsAnywhere Template, which will provide a guide for the license data or files required to license an app. The other option is to create a Custom license if no template is yet available.

AppsAnywhere provides a repository of templates for compatible apps via the AppsAnywhere Packaging Service. To ensure AppsAnywhere is up-to-date with the latest templates, the list of templates can be dynamically updated.

Updating the list of Templates is a manual process which can be performed at any time by following these steps.

  1. Navigate to the App License management page

  2. Log into AppsAnywhere as a System Admin user

  3. Click on Return to Admin to access the AppsAnywhere admin portal

  4. Hover over the settings menu (the cog icon found at the top right of the page)

  5. Click on App License management on the dropdown menu

  6. Click on the Check for updates button to retrieve any updates and apply them to the Templates available in AppsAnywhere

A table will show any Templates which have been added, updated or removed.

Although Templates are named after specific apps, it only provides a format for licensing data, and will only work with compatible applications provided by AppsAnywhere.

From the template an App License must be created containing the specific application license details.

Creating an App License

To use Automated App Licensing a license must be configured containing organization specific license details.

The License template field allows selection of a pre-defined template for a particular app. The template enforces a particular format for the license data, and therefore selecting one of these licenses will 'lock' the fields under license data (or files) to the required fields for the app template chosen.

Please refer to Automated App License Templates for more information on the expected data formats to work with AppsAnywhere provided apps.

When creating a custom license, Keys can only contain lower case letters, numbers, and underscores.
