App List administration For Blackboard

Prerequisites

  1. You have integrated with a Blackboard LTI application

  2. The Shared App Lists feature is enabled

    • The exam availability functionality requires the exam add-on feature to also be enabled

  3. At least one course must be created within Canvas, and any course you wish to link to an App List must have an SIS ID set

  4. The accounts the Blackboard course administrators are using should be configured with SIS IDs containing their LDAP directory or SAML usernames

    • The LDAP directory used for lookup is taken from the LTI application configured in AppsAnywhere

    • The corresponding directory user must also been given access to AppsAnywhere.

Once these are completed, you can proceed to setup.

Setup

Associating an App List

  1. Navigate to the AppsAnywhere tool in Blackboard, which will have the same name you used for the Placement

  2. As an administrator, you should see a message that there is no list associated.

  3. Selecting Associate app list will display available App Lists for you to associate with the current course.

  4. Here, you can select the App List you want to use for the course.

Some App Lists may already be associated to another course. A list can only be associated to a single course, but you will have the option to clone the list, as well as the option to give it a new name.

  5. Once an App List has been selected, the applications that it contains will be displayed.

As is the case when sharing an app list, if any of the apps contained within an App List have not been provisioned correctly, they will not be displayed to some users. Those users will see a warning if we detect that some applications appear to be missing.

Creating an App List

  1. Navigate to the AppsAnywhere tool in Blackboard, which will have the same name you used for the Placement

  2. Select Associate app list if no list has been associated, or Associate a different app list if one is already linked. The App Lists will then be displayed for you to associate with your LTI application

  3. Here, you can select Create a new list which will open a new tab to your AppsAnywhere instance where you can start editing the App List.

When creating a new App List you can see which course it will be linked to at the top of the page.

  4. For information on how to configure LMS and exam availability take a look at the section below for Configuring applications for LMS and exam availability

Editing an App List

  1. Navigate to the AppsAnywhere tool in Blackboard, which will have the same name you used for the Placement

  2. If the App List does not contain the required apps, you can select Edit this list to add the applications yourself

  3. This will open a new tab to your AppsAnywhere instance where you can start editing the App List

  4. For information on how to configure LMS and exam availability take a look at the section below for Configuring applications for LMS and exam availability

Adding and removing applications saves the App List automatically so there's no need to worry about clicking a save button!

Configuring applications for LMS and exam availability

When editing an App List associated to a course you can configure the LMS and exam availability for each application.

Before configuring your apps for exam environments, the apps you want to enable should have at least one Cloudpaging delivery method

  1. Navigate to the AppsAnywhere tool in Blackboard, which will have the same name you used for the Placement

  2. Selecting Edit this list will open a new tab to your AppsAnywhere instance with the App List edit screen displayed.

  3. You will see two checkboxes at the bottom of each app in the App List:

    1. The LMS checkbox notates whether the app is displayed in Blackboard

    2. The Exam checkbox notates whether the app is exam ready and will be reflected in the Shared App List - Request Apps API

  4. Once you’re happy with the selections, select Finished.

Once this is done, you can now close the AppsAnywhere tab and navigate back to Blackboard. Updates to the LMS availability will take effect immediately.

Disassociating an App List

  1. To remove an App List, selecting Edit this list will open a new tab to your AppsAnywhere instance with the App List edit screen displayed.

  2. You can then Delete the list, which will delete the App List and disassociate the App List from the course.
